Issue Relight candles are banned in Canada. These candles can spontaneously relight after being blown out and can re-ignite after disposal, posing a fire hazard.

Summary

It’s a classic party prank blowing out a candle only to have it flicker back to life seconds later. However, Health Canada is reminding Canadians that what seems like a harmless joke actually carries a very real risk of starting a fire.  On December 17, 2025, the agency issued an official advisory regarding specific “relight” candles previously available for purchase through Amazon.ca.
