Health Canada Issues Safety Warning, for LG Slide-In and Freestanding Electric Ranges

Health Canada is alerting LG free-standing electric range users against the fire danger resulting from front knobs accidentally turning on. The government said that accidental human or pet touch could activate the knobs controlling the stovetop elements, therefore posing a fire hazard.

The company has eight complaints of problems in Canada as of February 12, including two reports of injuries—one small burn and one minor cut. Between 2016 and June 2024, around 137,000 units of the impacted stoves were sold in Canada.

Check the model number inside the oven door or storage drawer at the bottom of the oven; ensure that the range is not in use before checking for the serial number. If the serial matches those listed on the Health Canada Safety and Recall alert page

Customers are advised to “immediately contact LG Electronics Canada, Inc. to receive a free warning label and placement instructions. Consumers may continue to use their range while waiting for the free warning label and instructions.”
