Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol Announces Layoffs of Over 1,000 Employees in a Global Restructuring

In a significant move toward streamlining operations and increasing efficiency, the Starbucks CEO, Brian Niccol, announced on February 24 that the business will be reducing roughly 1,101 corporate staff worldwide. CEO Brian Niccol’s February 24, 2025 decision is part of the (Starbucks official announcement) under the “Back to Starbucks” initiative designed to simplify its corporate structure and better position the company for future success.

Niccol said that the company will provide detailed severance packages, health benefits, and career transition tools to assist the 1,101 individual partners affected by the layoffs.

“You will hear more this morning from Sara Kelly or your regional PRO leader about our approach to this process and our commitment to partner care—including pay and severance, healthcare, and career transition services that will be provided to partners leaving the company.”

Apart from rearranging its stores, Starbucks is improving its product line by trimming menu items and testing ordering programs. Most recently, the business said it would remove some of its least popular drinks, including white hot chocolate, one of its tea lattes, and various Frappuccino varieties.
