Today marks this year International Women's Day, and women worldwide have continued to make significant impacts across many sectors, demonstrating leadership, resilience, and innovation.

Key events that illustrate women’s contributions so far into the year:

Thursday, March 6, the policewomen from the Laredo Police Department led a community walk for International Women’s Day at the Golondrina Food Truck Park.
as reported by Maria Ruiz/Laredo Morning Times. Laredo really showed up for its female officers this International Women’s Day. The women of the Police Department organized a mile walk in North Central Park, and it turned into a real community event. You had officers from all over – Customs, the Sheriff’s Office – joining in to honor the women working in law enforcement. It was their way of saying, ‘We see you, we appreciate you,’ and also to talk about the real struggles women face in these roles. They even had a workshop to help women balance their demanding careers with their lives at home. Word is, they’re hoping to make this walk a yearly tradition.

For International Women’s Day in 2025, people all over the world took to the streets. There were protests in Europe, Africa, South America, other places, mostly for similar interest; real gender equality and an end to violence and discrimination against women. In Istanbul, women were really pushing back against government ideas that tried to designate them into just being wives and mothers. All over Europe, people were raising their voices about the same stuff: you know, the usual – getting paid less for the same work, those really restrictive abortion laws, and the terrible problem of sexual violence. And then, you look at places like Ecuador and Bolivia, and it’s heartbreaking. People were out in the streets, furious about the women being killed, demanding someone be held accountable. It really hits you how strong and determined women are when they come together to make things change. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/turkey-istanbul-recep-tayyip-erdogan-asian-diyarbakir-b2711489.html
